Best 2020 Chevrolet Equinox Flat Tow Set Up RM-523193-5

Ryan: Hey everybody, it's Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be going over your best flat tow setup for your Chevrolet Equinox. Now to flat tow your Equinox, we're going to have five main components that are going to be needed. We're going to need a tow bar, a baseplate, safety cables, wiring, and finally, a braking system. Now if I had to recommend one tow bar that would work perfectly with our Equinox, I'd recommend this one here, and this is a Nighthawk Roadmaster. It's going to be extremely easy to use because it's nonbinding, so that's going to allow us to hook up and disconnect very easily without much struggle. It's also going to be very lightweight because it's made from aluminum, and when we're not using it, it can be stored in a closed position.I also like it too, because it does come included with and takes care of the need for our safety cables as well as our electrical cord that runs from our motor home to our six-pole connector here at the front of the vehicle. more

Rob: Rob, here, at etrailer.com. And today, we're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster Crossbar Style Base Plate Kit with removable arms. And here's what it's going to look like once we have it installed. Our base plate is going to give us that secure connection point so we can hook our tow bar up to our Sonic and safely flat tow it down the road. It's also going to spread that towing force across the front end, so we are not putting so much strain and stress on the front suspension. Now, when we are flat towing, we obviously need a spot for our tow bar to hook up to, but let's face it, nobody wants this big black thing hanging out the front of their car and distracting from the looks of it. Well, Roadmaster took that into effect, and we can actually pull these out when we are not using them. more

As you can see, we have a nice, clean look on our vehicle, when we're not hooked up to our motor home. This will make it, so people don't really even know that our car's been set up for a flat tow, and also, we don't have much sticking out past the front, so it's not something we're going to walk into, as we walk in front of the vehicle.Inside our sockets where our arms go, we have these plugs we can place in, so when we're not telling, we can keep dirt and debris outside of the plug, making it easy to insert our arms.We have our safety cable attachment points right here. We have hardward amount of breakaway switch, if we're using a separate metal braking system, and we have two prongs that come off the center, for any electrical attachments you may need, such as a six-way round, which we have here. Now, the reason you're going to want a baseplate, is because this provides the attachment point on your Equinox, behind your motor home. One thing that I really like about this baseplate is how easy it is to use. We'll simply pull out a plug, we'll take a removable arm, to make sure this tan is horizontal.Stick it in, press, rotate, and then, our spring loaded pin will lock it into place. Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Chevrolet Equinox we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Blue Ox base plate kit with removable arms, part number BX1730. Here's what our base plate's going to look like on our Equinox once we have it installed. I do want to mention that the breakaway switch here, as well as the wiring you see tucked behind here, are sold separately, part of a braking system, and the diode wiring kit that we're going to be putting on later. Our base plate is going to allow us to tow our Equinox down the road safely and securely behind our motor home. It's going to evenly distribute the weight off of our suspension and take some of that strain off while we're towing it. One of the nice features is, when we're not towing, we pull this pin right here, we can rotate the arm, and it'll actually come out, giving it more of a clean look. It's also going to come with a protective cap to go in the receiver tube here for whenever we're not towing and we remove the arms. Right here on the inside of our arms, we're going to have a couple tabs and that's where we hook up our safety chains, so there's going to be a nice, large loop. more

This is gonna make it nice and a lot more convenient to use.As the pin from our tow bar slides through, you can see this hole here; our snap ring goes down and it will come over to hold that in place. But you can also replace that with a lock if you'd like to lock that pin in place. more

It has these 2 mounting rods that you can mount electrical brackets to for connectors such as your 4 round or 6 round so that it can connect to your motor home. It does come with an L-bracket to mount up a breakaway switch. The breakaway switch itself does not come with it because that would come with your supplemental braking system, but it comes with the bracket in order to help you mount that up. You've got the 2 safety chain connection points that are right here at the bottom corners of the license plate frame and then you've got your mounting tabs here coming out of the fascia of either side of the license plate. What's really nice about this base plate is how easy it is to use. When you're getting ready to hit the road, in order to get ready to hook up your tow bar, you can just slide your arms in, push them down so that pin collapses, turn it until it locks into place. Then that's not going to go anywhere and you're ready to pull once you've got all of your other things connected. more
